Does it sound right that my friend has switched from five or more meds? - sarcoidosis more condition_symptoms

My friend has sarcoidosis, and your doctor changes your medication 5 times or more. My friend told me that the reason for this change is not work on these drugs. I do not think sounded good, or if it is found that the doctor does not know what to do or something HES. Never been seriously ill or something to that extent, therefore I am not sure how everything works. Ideas?
